Whatever problems the band had in Reno were fixed in Fresno tonight. The set list was the same as Reno, execpt "You Better, You Better, You Bet" was added after "Eminence Front". "Relay" and "MPT" were omitted from Fresno set list. There was only one instance of on-stage feedback during "Who Are You". Lighting, sound and production were stellar. Townsend is quite the MC and jokester on stage. Daltry only spoke at the end of the encore set and said "Thank You". Opening act Rose Hill Drive was stuck in the Sierra Nevada mountains and Simon opened the show with some great acoustic numbers including "Sex Change" which Pete mentioned early on. The video's were amazing and expanded the music. Pete talked about Fresno and the band had not played here since 1968 with Quicksilver Messenger Service. The songs from the first new CD in 24 years WIRE & GLASS were performed in a medley. The concert crowd in this city is country and pop. Lots of old hippies and rockers in the crowd, no one stood up early... By Won't Get Fooled Again no one was sitting down. Townsend talked about Baba O'Riley being the most recieved song the band does. He said "Lots of teenagers were wasted back in the day, those teenagers are probably dead now and it wasn't by car crashes and natural causes." At the end of the show, Pete takes the acoustic guitar and mimics smashing it on his head. The electricy of seeing this band for the first time and having played all of their songs in rock radio - I was blown away and their agility, energy and passion for rock and roll. My 18 year old son was with me, who is a classic rocker and we both agree The Daltrey-Townsend Band rocks.
