The Who only played here once. The Starlight Ballroom Boston. 26th February 1966. Up to 18 I lived in Spalding about 20 miles away. I didn't go (too young) but I remember a friend going and telling me there was no Roger Daltrey. Pete Townshend apologised for him and they carried on the three with Townshend singing it all. It was a good gig apparently. The Starlight Ballroom was the main area of the whole complex which was called The Boston Gliderdrome. Starlight because it had one of those big mirror globes in the middle. Naff now but impressive to us then.

I was there - and I remember it well. It was a good gig despite Roger's absence, but I had seen them several times before. Keith was a huge Beach Boys fans and was volunteered by Pete to sing Barbara Ann. Most of the rest of the set was older Who numbers from their Motown covers era (Motoring) and recent hits. It was called The Starlight Room because of the thousands of tiny lights on the ceiling The first time I saw The Who was at the Leisure Centre, Ramsey, Huntingdonshire, at the end of 1964, Also saw them at Peterborough Palais and The Jigsaw Club Manchester in 1965 having been to see Graham Bond Organisation at The Twisted Wheel earlier-what a day! Best live band by miles.
