The Who, still kicking and screaming

DALLAS -- Ghosts haunted the American Airlines Center on Friday night. But not just the ghosts you'd expect at a Who concert -- the band's late dru... Continue reading

Moves smooth but voice a bit rough during Who's show at AAC

Incredible show. Singer Roger Daltrey's vocals were NOT as ragged as Dallas Morning News critic Thorn Christensen claimed. Sure, Daltrey hit a few rough spots here and there, but 95 percent of the time, he sounded really strong. It was the most animated I've seen Pete Townshend live (in the flesh). The Who played with conviction and a wonderful balance of aggression and melodic precision. Townshend, at 61, jumped all over the stage, lunging with his Stratocaster and trotting across the stage. The guitarist also was in better voice than he was at the 2002 Dallas show at AAC. Last week's show also was the best I've seen Zak Starkey play, ever. I thought he was going to break a snare-drum head. It was a great, great show. Entwistle was missed (I am the biggest Ox fan; I've played bass for 23 years because of him), but The Who still are the best rock band in the world. No one touches them on the stage. The reunited Pink Floyd at Live 8 and U2 circa 1987 come close, but The Who is tops. Go see them on this tour. You won't regret it. (And the new songs rock!)
