I saw the set list for various concerts, and some notes. I was at the Montreal concert 2 December 1973 at the Forum. An unknown Southern band with a lot of guitars opened up (Lynyrd Skynard!).

The Who took the stage. Roger had a cold, but sang pretty well. Pete quipped to the audience "Is this some kind of 'Ockey arena?', as he used his guitar to display his stickhandling prowess.

The audience was hoping for a cacophony of smashed instruments, which did not take place. Word appeared in the press, however, that the group did lay waste to their accommodations at the Hotel Bonaventure to the tune of $12,000 damage.

That show is one of the top 5 of my concert going history.

The story of Pete's hockey comment needs to be elaborated slightly. The audience was very chatty and noisy in the middle of songs and Pete took offense to this. When Zeppelin played the Montreal Forum 3 1/2 years earlier, Page stopped the show in mid-song to chastise the crowd in spite of that being an awesome 4 encore feral feast of R&R. Anyway, so Pete takes off his guitar after asking if we thought this was a f---in' 'ockey game. Well in any other building that might have meant nothing but the in Mtl Forum it was like picking a fight. So he motors around the stage stick-handling an imaginary puck as if he's Guy Lafleur and the crowd goes nuts but no shards of guitar was a disappointment for me and many others.

Another highlight of the show was when Roger screamed at the climax of WGFA. His mic went dead instantly and he slammed it into the stage angrily before grabbing another and continuing to the end of the song "Meet the old boss..." After many years, I thought I only dreamed that happened until I met a stranger who remembered it as well!

John and Keith were the rock and Quadrophenia songs were a revelation. Quad sound was very cool with the sounds of waves at the beinning of Quad swishing 'round the building.

I was at the Montreal Forum show, in the 2nd row, directly in front of Pete, who posed for a photo by the friend I attended the show with. He caught Pete's attention and Pete did a little legs together leap for the camera. My greatest memory of the show was all the tension that had built up just before The Who came on. When they came onstage, Pete came out running and slid on his knees across - what seemed like - the entire stage. At that moment, 2 or 3 fistfights broke out around me; then the music began. The entire set was a powerful performance. After the show, on our way down the stairs towards the exit, the guy next to me, noone I knew, either drained and/or drunk from the event, screamed out: "Won't get lost again!"
