Great support from Joe Strummer who finished off with Kasbah,I fought the law,White Riot(pc version with no mention of white)looked great and sounded lean and keen.
The Who played to a full house with Zak Starkey filling in on the big chair started off with Can't explain, ran down the years with more early singles, My wife, then slowed down with an acoustic Townsend Sea and Sand/Drowned which was spine tingling.
These blokes are the ultimate showmen all three coming accross to the audience exactly like you expect only friendlier and warmer Daltrey even apologising to a couple of kids sat (well standing on seats then)just stage front for his use of anglo saxon.
Townsend was loud brash and loving every minute with outstanding performances on 5.15,Won't get fooled again amongst others but solo of the night goes to The OX for producing noises that Bass's aren't supposed to and near wiping young Starkey out with a ripper of a riff finishing The Real me. Faultless performances from all helped by a stage manner and banter with the moshing pit which resulted in a few bouncers with sore faces and a couple of Daltreys gob irons purloined, surprise of the night must have been an impromptu rendition of Mary Anne with the shakey hand.
The finale of My Generation was perhaps a little long winded but Townsends tongue in cheek comments on a certain fat dancer from Take That 's songwriting abilities brought the biggest laugh/cheer.
All in all great night one to savour.
