I was there, my friend had gotten tickets in the lottery. People had been waiting days camped outside Winterland to be able to get up front. There was a commotion at the front of the line, and all of a sudden, WHOOSH! everyone was running thinking the doors were opening. All sorts of personal belongings left behind scattered on the sidewalk. Spooky to think what happened in Cincinnati 1979 could have happened here. Once inside, the hype and anticipation of 5500 lucky ticket holders made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. When The Who came out, the entire crowd not only stood, but began jumping up and down and screaming. The show was fantastic, Moon was in control of his substances, and the band just killed on every song. It was the first time I had seen a show like that go down, the fans in a state of total adulation and abandon with the band locked in like only the Who could do, giving back double what the crowd gave them. I don't think I've ever seen a show like it since.

Ticket lottery for both shows as said in the other report. I won for this day, Saturday. I remember it was loud, though I think I've been to louder shows since. Several anecdotes to pass on: 1) A girl next to us said during the opening of Pinball Wizard, "Oh!!! They're playing an Elton John song!!!" 2) During Won't Get Fooled Again during PT's power riffs I remember a seeing black dude dressed a la Don Cornelius' Soul Train doing a dance that completely would fit a Tower of Power song ... The Who ... not so much. 3) Great show. I had a headache the complete next day ... and loved it!!!
