Confirmed by John Perry. Clive Jones attended the show: "I remember they played Bargain as when it was announced Keith Moon pretended it was called 'barking' and barked like a dog - I also remember 'Magic Bus' being played. I've just paid £150 to see The Who in London - tickets for Bath Pavilion cost 50 pence (half of one pound)!"

I was there that night along with my younger brother. The evening started off in a subdued manor with rows of seats arranged as if in a church hall. A warm up band started (I forget their name) - what a thankless task anyway! It seemed like ages after they had finished - the seats had all been moved to the back of the hall - the joint was getting hotter and hotter. The sense of anticipation was so electric - people were fainting and being carried out - the joint seemed to be getting even more crammed - I was sweltering wot a dum dum why had i worn a suit? (my best sharp light green tonic). My most vivid memorey of the evening was Daltrey throwing cups of WATER over us in the front rows - and PT in a fantastic white suite - The whole evening has stayed in my mind as the best WHO -concert I saw (along with the OVAL and ROTTERDAM 74)

I've read reviews of this and again no-one gets it quite right. At the back of the hall were stacked folding chairs. As we came in someone helped themselves to one and in no time they'd all been passed forward and we'd laid them out in neat rows (shades of Colston Hall). So management came on stage and said look there were loads still outside could we put the chairs back please. So we dutifully folded them up and passed them over our heads to the back and then did what any student would do - sat down. Back onstage come management - could we stand up please there were still hundreds outside who couldn't get in - and again we obliged. The Who by now were playing quite complex material and benefiting from an unchanged line-up for many years. One song they played was "I Don't Even Know Myself", the single B side of "Won't Get Fooled Again". The whole atmosphere was very good natured with a lot of banter between group and audience (probably because most of the latter were stoned by now). At one point Pete broke a string but his spare guitar had gone missing (he explained) so we waited patiently as it was restrung. A great evening but sadly the last time I saw ever them.

No tickets just 50p on the door! I recall the scene outside the Bath Pavillion was chaotic with hundreds of fans all over the road. When we eventually got inside the space was laid out like a school assembly with rows of canvas stacking chairs plus it was very hot and dangerously over crowded. I don't remember a support band. After a long wait The Who appeared and played a selection of songs from 'Tommy' and then took a break while the chairs, that everyone was standing on or had been stacked up, were removed from the hall by the pavillion staff. With the audience all standing and with space to move around The Who returned and played a selection from 'Who's Next' including Won't Get Fooled Again, Bargain plus My Generation, etc. Yes Roger was throwing water over the crowd using little paper cups and Pete was wearing a white boiler suit.
