Recently on odds & sods, there was a discussion about your first who show and what it was like. i d idn't post about that, what i did post about, spurred by people's memories of the 1982 tour, was my favorite or most memorable show from that tour, which is the date mentioned above.
My memory was that "athena" was performed that night, but it doesn't show as having been played. tonight i went digging through boxes and boxes of stuff to find my journal from that tour, where i wrote down the setlists and notes from the shows i went to. what i discovered was that there was an encore for that show that was played which you do not have listed.
The setlist i have matches yours exactly until WGFA, and then there was an encore break: Pete comes out and says, "We're gonna experiment on ya..." This is followed by: Athena, Summertime Blues, Twist and Shout
I also related in my post, and remembered vividly, a conversation with kenney jones that i was positive was from that evening, where he complained that "athena" sounded like "dustbins falling down the stairs". sure enough, here it is from my journal: "more like sheer terror... on the part of all of us, really. but if *i* make a mistake, everybody notices it - sounds like dustbins falling down the stairs..."
I realize this isn't documented proof as i do not have a tape, but i am a fairly serious rock archivist (i run a similar type of site for another band, and i know what kind of proof that we usually require - this kind of detailed notes would usually sell me on it!). i can make scans of the journal pages if you need further proof.
