After Pete sang "You can't have it" Roger stopped and said "Twenty-five years later and he still won't let me have the bus!!!" They segued straight into Won't Get Fooled Again which included a Pinball Wizard tease - with John joining halfway through (Info by Robert D Farrish)

From what I can tell, tonight was the first night on this North American leg that they slightly altered the encore. The set of course was the complete QUADROPHENIA. For the encore Pete & Roger started with "Magic Bus." After Pete sang "You can't have it" Roger stopped and commented "Twenty-five years later and he still won't let me have the bus!!!" They segued straight into "Won't Get Fooled Again" which included a "Pinball Wizard" tease. John joined in halfway through "WGFA." From there on out it was the standard encore: "Behind Blue Eyes", "Substitute", "I Can't Explain" & "Who Are You." Some observations: This was my 6th Quad show - I saw five in '96, three of the shows at the Madison Square Garden run and then both nights in Worcester last November. Prior to that I've seen the Who three times, twice in 1989 (including TOMMY at Radio City) and once in 1982. I also saw Pete twice on the PSYCHODERELICT tour. I don't think that I have ever seen him this charged up. He was in a great mood and his performance was truly inspired this evening. Much more lead guitar this time out than in '96. Pete followed John's bass solo on "5:15" with a great solo of his own and also did some amazing soloing in "Sea & Sand." And this time he finally gave in: it was windmill night. Each time the crowd went nuts. John's playing was as solid as ever. Roger was also in truly exceptional form. Completely involved and engrossed in the story, he gave a performance as passionate as any other in his entire career. He is often overlooked in favor of Pete as being the focal point of the group - but as brilliant of a song writer that Pete is, "It's the singer, not the song..." and nobody, not even Pete himself, could "make the music move along" like Roger does. Three incredibly strong musical personalities combined for a concert experience that was second to none. As far as the rest of the band goes, taking away the few extra players that they did, did not hurt a bit. Zak was strong as ever, the best of all the Moon fill-ins that they've had. The horn section was incredibly tight and Rabbit's playing was great too. What an evening.
