Another clear as yesterday memory. In fact, I had front row seats and sat about ten feet away from the stage. It was an amazingly loud show, and just amazing overall. The final song, "My Generation", guaranteed that there would be no encore.
The show was very well attended (the Civic Auditorium seats about 1500), but that was mainly because of the opening act - Blue Cheer, a popular San Francisco band just then enjoying some chart success with their own version of "Summertime Blues".
A while later, probably based on the good attendance of the first San Jose show, they appeared again at the San Jose Civic Auditorium, but you don't have this on your list. I don't know the exact date, but it had to be around the time of the August 1968 San Francisco shows. Perhaps one of those shows is mislabelled and is really San Jose? What I remember most clearly about this show was the extremely poor attendence. In fact, there were barely 100 people at this show and there was the very real possibility that it would be cancelled at the last minute, but fortunately for me the show went on, and again I sat in the front row. Another incredible performance by the Who, highlighted by a great live version of the just released "Magic Bus". The opening acts were minor local bands, which was probably one reason for low attendence. The Who were just not that popular in the US at that time. That would all change the next year, though, with the release of Tommy.
