Fanreports

Paul Lyons

I was fortunate enough to go to the Rock Band party at the Orpheum downtown on Wednesday night the 16th with special guests THE WHO. Unlike Saturday's rather sedate, 8-song set at UCLA for the VH1 Rock Honors show, last night was a truly majestic performance filled with fun and whimsy. Without the cameras and the media surrounding them, Pete and Roger were loose, and in a good mood, playing a strong 90 minute set featuring (not in order) I Can't Explain, The Seeker, Who Are You, Anyway Anyhow Anywhere, Fragments, The Relay, 5:15, Baba O'Riley, Behind Blue Eyes, My Generation, Won't Get Fooled Again, Pinball Wizard, Amazing Journey, Sparks, Tea and Theatre. For people who've never seen them it's still a joy to watch the two surviving members of the The Who play those great songs. Pete Townshend still has great spirit and is amazing to watch. In reality, as Pete said the other night at the Orpheum, they're really a "WHO cover band". But as cover bands go - they're the best!!
