The Who played three consecutive nights at the Newcastle Odeon in November of '73. I believe Townshend smashed two guitars on the 5th November gig, none on the 6th (the gig I was at) and another guitar on the November 7th gig. Townshend and Moon also appeared on the BBC Look North (local news) to explain the shenanigans that had went on at the previous nights gig (5th November) when they had had a problem with the backing tapes. I caught the interview just before I left the house to see the Tuesday night gig (6th November). From memory Moon was exceptionally well behaved and apologetic. I and thousands of others had had to 'camp out' outside the Newcastle Queens Theatre (a nearby cinema to the Odeon) in order to make sure I got tickets for the gig. Why the tickets weren't being sold at the Newcastle Odeon was probably for logistical reasons and easier crowd control.
