Unbelievable! Although a truly great audience tape exists of this show, if a sound board recording exists in The Who's archives it should be released as a CD! The band was in perfect form! Pete bashed one at the end just to add an exclamation point to an already fabulous performance! This show defines what rock and roll is all about - it just doesn't get any better!

OK here we go, it's March 9, 1976 and The Who hit Boston but Moonie is ill and after a song or two they're done. I wasn't there then because my submarine was deep under the Atlantic. We pull into Newport on April 1 and my brother calls to tell me The Who is at the "Gahden" tonight and he has a ticket for me. I am psyched as they are my #1 band and I've never seen them live. Outside the garden waiting for them to let us in and the crowd starts chanting 1-2-3-4 open up the f...ing doors, 5-6-7-8 open up the f...ing gates. Strong smell of pot inside and they start, but only 3 at first-where is Moon? He finally comes on stage doing tumblesalts up to his drums. I believe Pete hadn't smashed his guitar for a while but he must have loved the Gahden loonies and he smashed it good-Moonie kicked over the drums too. I knew then that I have witnessed a very special moment in my life. 32 years later on Oct. 24 I witnessed them again at the new Garden-great show, amazing they still have it- the best band ever.
