Their first concert in Scandinavia, however, was held in Helsingør(Elsinore) on Saturday and not in Copenhagen. Like most "pop happenings" at this time, this was a package show/tour where several bands performed, each given about half an hour to do their songs. The Who got on at about nine o'clock, the 25th, in front of 600 people, and did what must have been their standard repertoire: "Can't Explain", some R&B numbers, and probably "My Generation" and "Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere". "My Generation" hadn't been released at the time, other than perhaps radio promos.
Who really a jazz band?
The local newspaper gave a positive review the following week, but had the following "disclaimer" in the article: "The big question is whether the Who can get really famous - the atmosphere the group creates, is actually something produced by the audience's reactions, and the many effects are spontaneous ones, and could never be recreated on record, simply because the "dead" studio can't excite the four enough to do what the audience inspires them to do." The article also had a photo above it of the Who on stage. Pete was holding and playing a violin, Roger a stand up bass and Keith was on the saxophone, John couldn't be seen. The caption indicated that these were the instruments used during the concert which was almost certainly untrue, and the photo was probably taken before the concert.
One funny detail is that the most used Danish synonym for pop music, and the type of music the Who played, was "pigtraad"[pig-trawd]. Pigtraad means barbed wire, as in: "Hearing that music is like having barbed wire pulled through your ears!".
