Last Saturday evening, the internationally famous pop band The Who arrived, were seen and heard at Söderhamn and Berget. It wasn’t a colossal success despite the fact that most of the audience seemed to enjoy them. There were no attempts to storm the stage. The reinforced group of guards – five men plus police – breathed a sigh of relief when it was realized that the audience – mostly young teenagers – didn’t appear to be in "storm-staging-mood".
But Who were not able to leave Berget without suffering a siege: their car was of course surrounded by authograph and souvenir hunters, and the girl who managed to nag herself to a cigarette end left Berget with "double-double" value.
Who played through their repertoire with an incredible volume. Occasionally a bit too loud, but that is the way it should be.
The drummer Keith Moon voluntarily left behind two special souvenirs. In an effects-filled finale, he threw his drum sticks into the audience. The effect of this was remarkable. If you’ve ever seen a flock of seagulls dive and struggle for a herring you have a clear image of the situation.
Some local bands also participated as "opening acts" in the gala. The best known of these were the Panthers, while Why and Teams, among others, also performed. The latter bands were also responsible for the dance music until 9 PM.
