Pete Townshend: "This was a song intended for Psychoderelict. Recorded on cassette in my studio kitchen.I produced several music versions of this song lyric. I suppose the drift of the piece is about the fact that the way we appear in the eyes of others can often make us uneasy. We may feel we are looking bad, or have no sex appeal. Or we may be loking for some affirmation. But when we find ourselves being pursued by someone purely on the basis of our good looks, or our visible success, it can actually reduce our sense of our power rather than increase it.I think the song I wrote a bit later called Don't Try To Make Me Real replaced this song, and dealt with the subject less passively."
