Note
This show has beent sent by James Hofher. He wrote: "According to newspaper clippings, The Who appeared at the Mississippi River Festival on the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville on Monday evening, August 16, 1971. The performance began around 8:30 P.M. and went on for approximately ninety minutes. The Wishbone Ash, a British group on its second tour of the United States, appeared immediately prior to The Who. The clippings refer to the presence of Peter Townshend, Roger Daltrey, Keith Moon, and John Entwistle. The gates opened early (around 5:00 P.M.) to accomodate a substantial crowd that began to arrive at 8:00 A.M. and never stopped coming, although St. Louis radio stations urged people without previously-purchased tickets not to join the throng. The estimated attendance was approximately 33.000. The band had agreed to appear for $ 15.000 or sixty percent of the gate. The gate totalled $ 68.000, so The Who received a check for $ 40.800.

I attended this show at the Mississippi River Festival in Illinois. I arrived at about noon local time and there was already a huge crowd waiting, at least several thousand people. Surprisingly there were two local bands performing in the parking lot to entertain the crowd; I believe the bands were Titus Mother and Magna Crunch. Gates opened at about 4:00pm. Opening song by the Who was Summertime Blues, I don't remember any other part of the setlist.
