Fanreports

Michael Riddle

Pete and Roger did Magic Bus with Pete on electric, then switched to acoustic for Won't Get Fooled Again. John joined in on bass on the 3rd verse. Roger picked up acoustic guitar to start off with a "folkish" Kids Are Alright. A sign of finality.... Pete mentioned that this was the 60th show, with 10 more to go. That this was his last opportunity to be able to perform with his brother Simon.

Greetings! Excellent site; you're doing a great service. The show at Hardee's Walnut Creek Amphitheater in Raleigh on Sunday night proved once again that Pete Townshend is one of the all time quintesential rockers as he and bandmates Roger Daltrey and John Entwistle proceeded to tear the roof off the place. This year's version of Quadrphenia features a slightly condensed and altered program of the spoken narration (all prerecoded this year} which accompanies the show. Pete proved that he can wail on acoustic when he wants to, as well as kick out the jams electric if he were so inclined, as he did on six of the Quadrophenia tunes and all but two of the seven encore songs. At first satisfied with playing rhythm in his forays into amplified mayhem, he later played slashing and searing lead runs for a fairly substantial length of time on Sea & Sand, The Rock, Can't Explain, and Who Are You, while the stripped down rendition he and Daltrey performed of Magic Bus was a showstopper. The entire crowd was on it's feet and heavily into it for the entire gig. The entire band along with Roger's (thankfully recovered) voice were in great form and Pete couldn't help but break into a grin (as well as a windmill) on more than one occasion. John was observed shaking his fingers and saying "Owe" at the end of a thunderous reworking of Who Are You, an {unheard of at this venue} almost fifteen minutes past the eleven o'clock curfew.
