Kaboom ... Loud ... Wild ...and Fun! Pete and Kieth came out laughing and Keith did a sommersault before climbing into his drum kit. Long Tommy set, great Fooled... Roger was in great form whipping the mike smiling and having fun.
This show is reportedly one that took its toll on Pete's hearing and I remember him wincing and rubbing his ear with his shoulder early in the set.
Lots of high jumps and windmills. Lasers, bright lights and the wildest crowd I have ever been a part of. The crowd was pushing and shoving so hard I remember being pulled from side to side and back to front with little or no control over what direction I was going...
I was very close in front of Pete and the crowd was passing people who couldn't take the crush, out and over the centerfield wall...I wouldn't have wanted it any other way...John's bass was very loud in the mix and he got off on Dreaming...Only slight complaint, no Quadrophenia and not enough By Numbers, both records of which I am a big fan...About 100 minutes long...One of the best shows I've ever seen and I've been to plenty...You had to be there!!!!! Long live the Who.

Saw them on March 21 in Anaheim at The Big A where the Angels play ball. Crazy Dangerous. Every time Pete's arm went up over his head about to come down hard on his guitar the entire place would erupt in a frenzy of out of control pushing and shoving towards the stage . Continually compacting everyone in tighter and tighter till you had no control over your own actions. I was being squashed and it was very uncomfortable feeling. The show was amazing of course. I drove down from the bay area to see them in LA with tix to the following Saturday March 27 show in SF at Winterland. Back to back shows. One outside one inside. I told myself I wasn't going to allow myself to see them at winterland if I had to go through that same mess again. I had to be comfortable and safe. Only one way to do that . I had to be dead center against the stage so I could rest against it and not worry about being pushed and shoved around. That meant I had to go up early and spend time in line. I drove home after the Anaheim show on Sunday March 21. Got home Monday the 22 and immediately began planning my next move. I drove up early morning at 1:00 am Wednesday March 24th 1976 and I was the first guy there. It wasn't long though before a car pulled up and got in line behind me . I brought sleeping bag ,food, acoustic guitar and lots of good weed. I slept on the corner of Post and Steiner from Wednesday March 24th at 3:00 am till the doors opened Saturday night March 27th, Show Time. By that time the line behind me was massive . Helicopters over head all local radio focused on the days events and upcoming first of two shows. My position in line was now a BIG DEAL! Bill Graham doing his rounds that day prior to stopped and talked to me a bit. Asked me when I arrived in line. When I told him his eyes bugged out and his hand immediately flew up high above his head waving to his main man Willy the door man . "Let this man in a full hour before the doors are scheduled to open" True to his word I was let in a full hour before anyone else walked though the door. I looked around a bit and decided to go plop my butt down dead center against the stage and make camp. I didn't move till it was over and the dust had cleared. WOW! Some 40 years later while surfing randomly on line at concert shots from the past I noticed a few from Winterland. It wasn't long before I found one of me at the WHO that night. Taken from behind the stage in the upper balcony it was incredible picture. I looked for more and found them. Several more. Several more from different photographers who happened to all be lined up in the upper balcony seats behind the stage. All in all I found at least a dozen shots of me smack dab in the middle of the action. Ill probably do it anyway. Need to locate them. Ill send them fairly soon. I got to see them lots of times over the years. MANY times up front against the stage. This one show was the top of the pop! Had to see it to believe it!
